Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent
  • Active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
  • Employees must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul vehicles, construction equipment, and mechanical systems
  • Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, and adjustments on engines and components
  • Perform official safety and emissions inspections, as well as complete required documentation
  • Use tools and testing equipment to identify mechanical issues and determine repair methods
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area while following established safety procedures and reporting hazards
  • Make on-site adjustments, assist coworkers, and maintain accurate equipment records
