About The Position

As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, you will support important transportation operations across the state. Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at time of application.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
  • Obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Repair vehicles and machinery including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and hydraulic components
  • Complete scheduled service tasks to keep equipment in safe working condition and reduce breakdowns
  • Conduct official inspections, make necessary adjustments, and prepare required documentation
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical issues and determine the proper repair methods
  • Follow safety procedures, maintain a clean work area, and report hazards or injuries promptly

Benefits

  • Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes).
