Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day or employment.
  • This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
  • Complete maintenance tasks including diagnostics, tune ups, and component adjustments
  • Conduct official inspections and complete all required records and paperwork
  • Follow proper safety procedures, report hazards, and maintain a clean work environment
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical problems and determine repair needs
  • Assist coworkers with major repairs and demonstrate techniques as needed
