Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission (E) removed or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position will require employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs on vehicles and machinery by replacing parts, fixing systems, and completing mechanical adjustments
  • Carry out routine maintenance on engines, systems, and equipment to reduce wear and prevent breakdowns
  • Identify mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and methods to determine effective repair steps
  • Conduct official state inspections, perform required repairs, and document findings and results accurately
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all required safety procedures and protective measures
