Dialysis Patient Care Technician-PCT
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides care to patients with end-stage renal disease and supports clinical staff throughout the dialysis treatment process to deliver prescribed treatments. PCTs are integral members of the interdisciplinary team, helping ensure safe care and high-quality outcomes for every patient. The role works under RN supervision in a comfortable clinical setting. This is a part-time position with two 12-hour shifts starting at 4:30 a.m. Sundays off and no overnight shifts. Dialysis and previous healthcare experience are not required. DCI provides paid, comprehensive training, including classroom sessions and one-on-one skills training.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Desire to collaborate with care teams.
- Ability to problem solve.
Nice To Haves
- Previous healthcare experience.
- CNA, EMT, medical assistant, CNT, and/or phlebotomy skills.
- Dialysis experience; however, it is not required.
Responsibilities
- Participate in infection control, risk management, and patient education activities.
- Guide new patients through a 120-day education plan.
- Obtain and record patient vital signs and dialysis machine readings during treatment.
- Set up and break down the dialysis blood system for treatment.
- Insert and remove patient access needles.
- Monitor patients during dialysis, document changes, and inform the charge nurse of concerns.
- Calculate patient weight loss to reach dry weight.
- Determine patient care priorities and organize workload accordingly.
- Maintain professional working relationships while observing patient privacy and rights.
- Maintain and track inventory.
- Perform laboratory work.
