Responsible for responding to requests for ALS intervention and for providing emergency medical care in the pre-hospital environment according to Paramedic Protocols and Policies approved by SSHS and the ALS system Medical Director. Performs other duties related to the provision of care and development of the community EMS system. This role also performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of the ED physicians, assisting with 12 Lead EKGs, blood draws, and IV insertions, and charting skills done in-house according to appropriate policy. The technician acts as a team leader in dealing with emergency responses, demonstrating the ability to control emergency scenes and directing EMTs and other medical personnel. They also take proper care of vehicle and equipment, preventing loss or damage, maintaining equipment and vehicle according to policy, and keeping the vehicle locked when unattended. Additionally, the technician pursues new levels in Paramedicine technology and participates in activities that contribute to professional growth and development, such as maintaining current certifications, sharing new information with staff, attending meetings, and maintaining a skill log. Finally, they participate in community activities that improve the public's understanding of the EMS system, representing South Shore Health & Educational Corporation and the Department of Paramedic Services positively and professionally, and participating effectively in planned public relations events.
