About The Position

Responsible for responding to requests for ALS intervention and for providing emergency medical care in the pre-hospital environment according to Paramedic Protocols and Policies approved by SSHS and the ALS system Medical Director. Performs other duties related to the provision of care and development of the community EMS system. This role also performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of the ED physicians, assisting with 12 Lead EKGs, blood draws, and IV insertions, and charting skills done in-house according to appropriate policy. The technician acts as a team leader in dealing with emergency responses, demonstrating the ability to control emergency scenes and directing EMTs and other medical personnel. They also take proper care of vehicle and equipment, preventing loss or damage, maintaining equipment and vehicle according to policy, and keeping the vehicle locked when unattended. Additionally, the technician pursues new levels in Paramedicine technology and participates in activities that contribute to professional growth and development, such as maintaining current certifications, sharing new information with staff, attending meetings, and maintaining a skill log. Finally, they participate in community activities that improve the public's understanding of the EMS system, representing South Shore Health & Educational Corporation and the Department of Paramedic Services positively and professionally, and participating effectively in planned public relations events.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as a provider of pre-hospital care in an emergency setting
  • VDL - Valid Drivers License
  • Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, at time of hire, with annual verification required thereafter.
  • EMT- P - Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic
  • ACLS - EMS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS - EMS (Basic Life Support)

Nice To Haves

  • Critical care experience preferred/ALS transfers
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program

Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for paramedic services from area departments in a timely and safe manner.
  • Assists with Diagnostic Imaging Department emergent events.
  • Follows Massachusetts laws Chapter 89, Sect. 7 and Chapter 90, Sections 7, 13, 14, 16 and 17 regarding emergency driving.
  • Completes documentation and records according to department policy, including run reports, computer database entry, equipment checklists, trip logs, patient charges, patient refusals, and narcotics sign-offs.
  • Ensures vehicle and equipment are ready for response at all times, including knowing equipment location and use, restocking equipment, and reporting damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Renders pre-hospital medical care at the paramedic level, including patient assessments, adherence to treatment protocols, carrying out medical control orders, proficiency in ALS skills, professional patient interaction, accurate radio reports, and maintaining geographical knowledge.
  • Performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of ED physicians, including techniques within scope of training, assisting with EKGs, blood draws, and IV insertions, and charting skills.
  • Acts as a team leader in emergency responses, demonstrating scene control, directing personnel, and interacting with public safety personnel.
  • Takes proper care of vehicle and equipment, preventing loss or damage, maintaining according to policy, and keeping vehicle locked when unattended.
