About The Position

Under the intermittent direction of the management of the Clinical Engineering Department, the incumbent will perform a wide variety of planning, integration, and maintenance work on Diagnostic Imaging Equipment. Activities include installation, repair, maintenance, and calibration of specialized imaging equipment. Adheres to instructions and corporate policies, and demonstrates professionalism with integrity in all interactions with customers and staff. Travel across multiple sites may be required in the performance of assigned duties. Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot problems with highly sophisticated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computer-based technology. The incumbent may provide training to colleagues, vendors, and other personnel of the Yale New Haven Health System. They may participate in the delivery of clinical education sessions to educate staff, students, and others on the operation, hazards, and healthcare necessity of the equipment. Diagnostic Imaging Engineer II provides assistance, expertise, and guidance in the installation of diagnostic imaging devices and required provisions such as power, IT network, and mounting. In order to be effective in the position, the employee will be able to express ideas clearly and in a professional manner both orally and in writing. The interpersonal skills necessary for the position include effective communication to a wide variety of internal and external customers, which foster a positive impression of YNHHS. The position does require on-call duties which will require occasional weekend and off-hours work. There are travel requirements for the position which include support of YNHHS entities for Clinical Engineering purposes as well as training assignments in a broader geography.

Requirements

Diagnostic imaging modality training from an OEM, third party or military training required.
Technical acumen with five (5) years of related technical experience with demonstrated ability to repair complex electronic systems with three (3) years working directly on Diagnostic Imaging equipment.
An associates degree with five (4) years of related technical experience with demonstrated ability to repair complex electronic systems with three (3) years working directly on Diagnostic Imaging equipment.
A bachelors degree with five (3) years of related technical experience with demonstrated ability to repair complex electronic systems with three (3) years working directly on Diagnostic Imaging equipment.
Must be proficient in the use electronic schematics, blueprints, service manuals, and direction provided via phone.
Knowledge and daily use of safety policies, procedures, personal protective equipment, safety data sheets, and universal precautions.
Ability to use and interpret information from highly specialized test equipment.
Ability to effectively lead the work of others.
Ability to prioritize and handle high pressure situations.
Ability to work with OEM, and third party vendors to maintain and return diagnostic imaging devices to working order and ensure patients and operators are exposed to minimal radiation dose possible.

Nice To Haves

An associates or bachelors degree in a technical field through mechanical, electrical, biomedical preferred or other proven comparable education level required.

Responsibilities

Performs inspection and repairs maintaining imaging equipment following OEM approved procedures using specialized test equipment.
Testing and preventative maintenance according to the OEM, Joint Commission, OSHA, accrediting bodies and departmental standards of all equipment assigned to ensure that it functions in a safe and proper manner.
Works from drawings, technical manuals, and other specifications to troubleshoot and repair Diagnostic Imaging Equipment and related equipment.
Troubleshoots equipment in a logical sequence which results in the proper identification and correction of malfunctions in a timely manner.
Serves as a subject matter expert on diagnostic Imaging technologies for the Clinical Engineering, Radiology, and Heart and Vascular departments.
Responsible for keeping an accurate inventory of equipment and associated modules/probes, parts, test equipment and tools needed for proper maintenance for the fleet of equipment.
Works with administrators, associated IT personnel, vendors and others to ensure proper flow of information through the electronic health record.
Continuously enhances and maintains knowledge of diagnostic imaging technologies.
Contributes to the training and on the job training of less experienced personnel in the department.
Serves as resource and provides assistance to other staff in areas concerning specialty, including providing training and instruction to others on specialty equipment.
Demonstrates exceptional customer service, while interacting effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care community.
Serves as a reference source for clinical engineering and clinical staff with regards to appropriate procedures for the operation and maintenance of imaging devices.
Provides technical support (via telephone or on-site) to Clinicians and engineers.
