About The Position

Participants in the Donated Goods Retail Technician Work Based Learning Experience will engage in a structured, time-limited training opportunity within Goodwill’s Donated Goods Retail (DGR) environment. This program is designed for youth with a diagnosed disability who require hands-on work experience, socialization opportunities, and job readiness skill development in a supportive and inclusive retail setting. This experience focuses on skill development rather than productivity, with individualized learning objectives, on-site job coaching support, and close coordination with Mission Services.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions and accept feedback in a supportive learning environment.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks and practice workplace skills.
  • Basic communication skills appropriate to the participant’s ability level.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with peers, supervisors, and job coaches.
  • Commitment to workplace safety practices.
  • Must exercise discretion and respect confidentiality.
  • Must be a resident of Broward, Miami-Dade, or Monroe Counties.
  • Youth or young adults with a diagnosed disability.
  • Individuals in need of work experience and structured socialization opportunities.
  • Must be able to commit to the full duration of the Work-Based Learning program.
  • Successful completion of a Clearinghouse background check prior to employment.
  • Must be registered with the FL Clearinghouse | Florida Agency for Health Care Administration https://info.flclearinghouse.com/) and provide consent for the employer to access their records.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in structured, supervised training activities within a Goodwill Donated Goods Retail store.
  • Learn and practice foundational retail skills such as: Sorting, tagging, and organizing donated goods, Stocking shelves and maintaining sales floor organization, Basic customer service and workplace communication, Store cleanliness and safety procedures.
  • Follow assigned schedules, workplace rules, and training plans.
  • Demonstrate appropriate workplace behaviors, including punctuality, teamwork, and respect for others.
  • Engage in socialization activities that support communication, collaboration, and independence in a work environment.
  • Communicate regularly with assigned job coach and store-based point of contact to review progress and receive feedback.
  • Perform other learning-related duties as assigned that align with individual training goals.
  • Communicate regularly with the assigned job coach and site supervisor to review progress and receive feedback.
  • Attend any required orientations, trainings, or career readiness sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the department's needs.
