About The Position

We are seeking a DFM Engineer to join our Project Engineering team. This role is a replacement due to a recent termination. The DFM Engineer will collaborate closely with customers across various industries — including aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial, and medical devices — to evaluate manufacturability, optimize designs, and ensure successful project delivery. You will work directly with Xometry’s manufacturing partners, internal teams, and customers to solve engineering challenges and support production execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience focusing on CNC machining and/or sheet metal fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of process cycle times, material and geometry limitations, and cost optimization.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers, OEMs, and customers.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Solid knowledge of GD&T and inspection/QA practices.
  • Proven ability to identify DFM issues from CAD models and technical drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of 3/4/5-axis milling and turning with live tooling.
  • Familiarity with post-processing and plating finishes for machined parts.
  • Experience with specialty processes such as EDM, grinding, honing, and lapping.
  • Understanding of material selection and forming technologies (press brake, laser/waterjet cutting, welding, stamping).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer designs for manufacturability and recommend improvements using Xometry’s technologies and capabilities.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies that ensure quality and cost efficiency.
  • Support production troubleshooting to ensure smooth order execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Interface with machine shops, fabrication partners, internal teams, and clients to drive project success.
  • Participate in initiatives to expand and strengthen Xometry’s manufacturing partner network and technical capabilities.
