About The Position

IFS Logistics helps enterprise shippers connect transport data, manage carrier spend, and automate execution. Its SaaS platform supports busy, data-heavy logistics operations where reliability and clear operational visibility are essential. The Senior DevOps Engineer will be the second DevOps specialist responsible for the platform, working with Lead DevOps Engineer Diego Silva and partnering closely with application and data engineers. This hands-on role owns substantial workstreams and improves a live platform, including observability, CI/CD, release controls, cloud-cost management, infrastructure as code, data-pipeline reliability, and incident response. The successful candidate must be based in the UK or the Netherlands. The team works remotely, with clusters in London and Amsterdam, and supports flexible and hybrid work opportunities. In the first six months, success means production problems are identified before customers report them; pipeline failures are detected, assigned, and recoverable; merge-request reviews and controlled production deployments are enforced through delivery pipelines; weekly releases are predictable; GCP spending is attributable to workloads and product areas with action taken on key cost drivers; and application and data teams have a responsive platform partner.

Requirements

  • Strong experience running production services on GCP.
  • Practical knowledge of Kubernetes and Terraform, including operating and improving infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in GitLab or a similar platform.
  • Evidence of instrumenting a real system and improving its metrics, logging, tracing, or alerting.
  • Examples of treating cloud cost as an engineering concern, including attributing spend, finding waste, and making informed trade-offs.
  • Experience operating data pipelines, such as streaming ingestion, warehouse loads, or dbt transformations.
  • Confidence to challenge an unsafe change and explain what must happen before it can ship.
  • Practical experience with AI coding tools such as Cursor or Claude, including providing context and verifying infrastructure changes before accepting them.
  • Ability to assess an imperfect system, prioritize what matters, and carry improvements through to production.
  • Must be based in the UK or the Netherlands.

Nice To Haves

  • Enough Python experience to investigate or fix issues in a Django application.
  • Security or compliance experience in an enterprise SaaS environment.
  • Experience designing incident-management or on-call processes.
  • BigQuery cost and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

  • Improve metrics, logs, traces, and alerts across the Django API, data pipelines, and warehouse to identify and diagnose problems quickly.
  • Improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines so they are fast, dependable, and difficult to bypass, with review and deployment controls built into the workflow.
  • Remove direct-to-production paths, strengthen release controls, and help establish a reliable weekly release cadence.
  • Make GCP spending visible by workload and product area, then reduce waste without compromising service quality.
  • Improve Terraform and Kubernetes infrastructure so environments are reproducible, secure, and clearly documented.
  • Strengthen data-pipeline reliability by adding failure detection, freshness checks, replay paths, and clear ownership across Datastream, Pub/Sub, dbt, and BigQuery.
  • Help shape incident-management and on-call practices, and turn recurring failures into automated checks and safeguards.
  • Partner with application and data engineers to improve their ability to ship safely and support the product in production.
