SubContractor - DevOps Engineer

Qvest US•New York, NY

About The Position

Qvest US is hiring a subcontractor DevOps Engineer for its Innovation and Development Center, which builds custom software using modern technologies to solve complex client business problems. The role focuses on designing, operating, and improving AWS infrastructure and delivery systems, with an emphasis on automation, reliability, security, and cost efficiency. The engineer will work with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD and GitOps, container orchestration, observability and SRE practices, DevSecOps, internal automation, and cloud cost governance. Travel to client sites may be required according to project or assignment needs. Remote or hybrid work may be allowed for certain projects, but client requirements take precedence and onsite attendance may be required.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-grade systems on AWS, including VPC, IAM, EKS/ECS, RDS, S3, and EventBridge.
  • Deep operational experience with Terraform, including state management and module design, or AWS CDK.
  • Strong Docker containerization background and hands-on operational experience with Kubernetes (EKS) or AWS ECS, including Helm templating.
  • Extensive experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, including automated testing, linting, security scanning, and artifact management.
  • Proficiency in Python, including AWS SDK/boto3, or Go, alongside Linux shell scripting (Bash).
  • Proven experience implementing logging, metrics, and tracing platforms and designing structured on-call incident responses.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing GitOps workflows with Argo CD or Flux.
  • Familiarity with Policy-as-Code frameworks such as Open Policy Agent/Gatekeeper, Kyverno, or Checkov.
  • Understanding of MLOps pipelines and infrastructure for machine learning workloads, such as Kubeflow or AWS SageMaker.
  • Practical experience running OpenSearch/Elasticsearch clusters at scale.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer Professional, or other cloud certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, provision, and maintain modular AWS infrastructure using Terraform or AWS CDK, including reusable modules and policy-as-code across environments.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated delivery pipelines using GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, integrated with GitOps engines for zero-downtime progressive rollouts such as Blue/Green and Canary.
  • Manage production-grade containerized workloads on Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) or Amazon ECS.
  • Optimize container image builds, build caching, and cluster resource scaling.
  • Instrument system-wide observability using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Splunk, or AWS CloudWatch.
  • Define and track SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, and establish actionable alerting pipelines that minimize alert fatigue.
  • Integrate automated vulnerability scanning for container images, dependencies, and infrastructure-as-code into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Manage centralized identity, role-based access controls, and secrets management.
  • Develop automation scripts and micro-tools using Python or Go to reduce manual toil, support automated backups, and validate disaster recovery procedures.
  • Partner with engineering teams to monitor cloud consumption, optimize resource allocation, and implement automated scaling policies for cost-efficient infrastructure.
