SubContractor - DevOps Engineer

Qvest US•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

Qvest US is hiring a SubContractor DevOps Engineer for its Innovation and Development Center (IDC), which builds custom software with modern technologies to address complex client business problems. The role focuses on designing, operating, and improving cloud infrastructure and delivery systems for client projects. The DevOps Engineer will architect and maintain AWS infrastructure as code, build automated CI/CD and GitOps workflows, operate containerized workloads, and establish observability and reliability practices. The role also covers security and compliance automation, internal tooling, disaster recovery support, and cloud cost governance. Remote or hybrid work may be permitted for some projects, but client requirements take precedence and may require onsite work and travel to client locations.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-grade systems on AWS, including VPC, IAM, EKS/ECS, RDS, S3, and EventBridge.
  • Deep operational experience with Terraform, including state management and module design, or AWS CDK.
  • Strong Docker background and hands-on operational experience with Kubernetes (EKS) or AWS ECS, including Helm templating.
  • Extensive experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, including automated testing, linting, security scanning, and artifact management.
  • Proficiency in Python, including AWS SDK/boto3, or Go, along with Linux shell scripting (Bash).
  • Proven experience implementing logging, metrics, and tracing platforms such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, or Prometheus/Grafana.
  • Experience designing structured on-call incident responses.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing GitOps workflows with Argo CD or Flux.
  • Familiarity with policy-as-code frameworks such as Open Policy Agent/Gatekeeper, Kyverno, or Checkov.
  • Understanding of MLOps pipelines and infrastructure for machine learning workloads, such as Kubeflow or AWS SageMaker.
  • Practical experience running OpenSearch/Elasticsearch clusters at scale.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer Professional certification, or other cloud certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, provision, and maintain modular AWS infrastructure using Terraform or AWS CDK, including reusable modules and policy-as-code across environments.
  • Design, build, and maintain automated delivery pipelines using GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, integrated with GitOps engines for zero-downtime progressive rollouts such as Blue/Green and Canary.
  • Manage production containerized workloads on Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) or Amazon ECS, optimize container image builds and caching, and scale cluster resources.
  • Implement system-wide observability using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Splunk, or AWS CloudWatch; define and track SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets; and establish actionable alerting.
  • Integrate automated vulnerability scanning for container images, dependencies, and infrastructure as code into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Manage centralized identity, role-based access controls, and secrets management.
  • Develop automation scripts and micro-tools using Python or Go to reduce manual work, support automated backups, and validate disaster recovery procedures.
  • Partner with engineering teams to monitor cloud consumption, optimize resource allocation, and implement automated scaling policies for cost efficiency.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k) matching.
  • Flexible vacation.
  • Company-sponsored training to advance employees' skill sets.
