About The Position

The Electrophysiology Device Tech works with Cardiologists to monitor and program device patients. The role evaluates and optimizes programming for pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (AICDs), and cardiac resynchronization devices. It includes assessing battery status, sensing, lead impedances and thresholds, and magnet rates; interpreting device event logs and histograms; identifying lead failures and appropriate or inappropriate AICD shocks; programming or reprogramming devices based on interrogated data; managing AICD shock therapy; and adjusting left ventricular leads to avoid diaphragmatic stimulation. The Device Tech remotely monitors applicable patients via the Internet, assists with training cardiology fellows in the device clinic, and provides pre-operative and post-operative care, as well as ongoing management and evaluation of inpatients with devices as applicable. Other related duties may be assigned or requested, and the University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use computer systems or specified equipment essential to the related areas.
  • Knowledge of hospital radiology techniques, theory, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, invasive cardiovascular practices, techniques and pressures, basic analysis, and emergency protocols.
  • Familiarity with electrophysiology equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.

  • Check and interpret device event logs and histograms; identify lead failures and appropriate or inappropriate AICD shocks.
  • Program or reprogram devices based on interrogated data, turn AICD shock therapy on or off, reprogram left ventricular leads to avoid diaphragmatic stimulation, and program rate response as appropriate.
  • Remotely monitor applicable device patients via the Internet.
  • Assist in training cardiology fellows in the device clinic.
