About The Position

Alarm.com is seeking an RF/EMC engineer to join its Device Engineering team, which develops connected devices such as security panels, networking gateways, and video cameras. The engineer will work with cellular (LTE, Cat-M, NB-IoT, RedCap), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa, and sub-GHz radios used in security, sensing, and life-safety devices. The role is approximately two-thirds independent RF performance and EMC testing and verification, and one-third design work, including antenna matching, review of RF- and EMI-sensitive circuits, and converting test failures into design fixes. The engineer will work with senior RF engineers and develop experience in simulation and RF circuit design. The team’s areas of work include conducted and over-the-air RF performance testing; EMC pre-compliance testing and debugging; antenna matching, characterization, and placement; RF front-end and EMI design reviews; antenna and EMI simulation; regulatory certification support; and test automation. Prior exposure to these areas is beneficial but not required. Alarm.com describes its environment as collaborative and fast-paced, with employees working from the office four days per week. The base salary range is $88,300–$122,550 USD, with the offer determined by factors including qualifications, location, and experience. Sponsorship of new employment authorization applicants and other immigration-related support are unavailable for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, with coursework or experience in RF, microwave, or EMC.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on RF or EMC testing experience; graduate research and co-ops count.
  • Ability to scope work independently, follow through, and communicate progress and blockers early.
  • Ability to analyze RF and EMC test results and explain them to non-RF team members.
  • Hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, DC power analyzers, and cellular communication testers.
  • Ability to design single-band impedance matching networks from VNA measurements using Smith chart fundamentals.
  • Understanding of EMI types and sources and common mitigation approaches, including filtering, shielding, grounding, and layout.
  • Experience reading schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Familiarity with cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and sub-GHz IoT protocols.
  • Clear written and verbal communication of results to design and program teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with multi-band antenna matching and antenna characterization, including efficiency, gain, and pattern measurements in an anechoic chamber.
  • Electromagnetic simulation experience with Ansys HFSS, SIwave, or similar tools.
  • Schematic capture or PCB layout experience for RF circuits, for example in Altium.
  • Familiarity with regulatory certification processes and standards, including FCC, ISED, and CE/RED, and preparing devices for external laboratories.
  • Python scripting to automate lab tests and data processing, including use of AI-assisted tools.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan and perform RF performance and EMC pre-compliance testing on multi-radio hardware against product specifications and regulatory requirements, including FCC, ISED, and CE/RED.
  • Document and analyze test results, assess their impact on product performance, and communicate findings to design and program teams.
  • Design and tune single- and multi-band antenna matching networks and characterize antennas in product enclosures.
  • Participate in schematic and layout reviews of RF front ends, antennas, and EMI-sensitive circuits.
  • Troubleshoot RF performance and EMC failures, propose design changes, and verify changes on the bench.
  • Contribute RF circuit blocks and run antenna and EMI simulations with senior engineers.
  • Support certification testing by preparing samples, writing test instructions, and witnessing testing at external laboratories.
  • Automate repeated measurements to improve test throughput and reliability using AI and software tools.
  • Communicate and collaborate with others to support timely project delivery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Medical plans with company subsidies.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Paid vacation that increases with tenure.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Wellness time.
  • Paid maternity and bonding leave.
  • Company-paid disability insurance.
  • Company-paid life insurance.
  • Collaborative and casual work environment.
