About The Position

The Developmental Pediatric Psychologist will conduct assessment services, offer direct intervention, attend professional meetings, provide education/training, and maintain records. This role involves evaluating cognitive and emotional functioning, parenting skills, potential abuse, and risk assessment. Direct intervention includes short-term therapy, group work, and consultation. The position also requires participation in team meetings, case presentations, and providing supervision and teaching to students/trainees. Record keeping is essential, ensuring all procedures are performed based on established standards and demonstrating competency across various age groups from neonates to geriatrics. The hospital serves a large number of inpatients and outpatients annually, offering many specialty services for children.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in child clinical, developmental, school or pediatric psychology.
  • NJ license or license eligible required (supervision by a licensed psychologist will be available).
  • Two (2) years of experience in the areas of assessment; developmental pediatrics, treatment of parents and children, and consultation.

  • Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Assessment Services including evaluation of cognitive functioning, emotional functioning, parenting skills, validation of abuse, risk assessment, perpetrator assessment, bonding evaluations, and forensic evaluations.
  • Assess patients considering growth and development factors appropriate to the age (Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics).
  • Assess clients with satellite or outreach centers and travel independently to all sites served by the CNJRCDC.
  • Offer Direct Intervention including short-term, problem-focused therapy (individual or group) for issues like parenting skills, post-partum depression, and family reunification.
  • Conduct group work such as parenting education, groups for abusers, victim groups, groups for high-risk parents, and mother-infant groups.
  • Provide consultation to parents, children with adjustment difficulties, nursing, medicine, and social work.
  • Plan and implement care considering growth and development factors appropriate to the age of the patient.
  • Attend professional meetings where relevant cases are discussed.
  • Attend scheduled psychosocial team meetings.
  • Prepare and present developmental cases to the team.
  • Provide presentation and supervision to students/trainees.
  • Teach patients considering growth and development factors appropriate to their age.
  • Participate in education and development activities and maintain professional credentialing.
  • Demonstrate competency in knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to specific age-related populations.
  • Make records after meetings with clients, including complete reports, case notes, and chart notes.
  • Ensure all procedures are performed based on established standards and demonstrate competency within scope of practice for all age groups.
