Developmental Disability (DD) Direct Support Professional - Residential Based (3729)
About The Position
Appalachian Community Services is hiring a Caregiver / Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their behavioral health needs. This role is a strong fit for experienced caregivers, DSPs, CNAs, HHAs, PCAs, home health workers, and other direct care professionals looking to continue their work in a meaningful, person-centered setting. It is also a great opportunity for dependable people who want to transition into caregiving and receive training and support. The position offers a predictable set weekly schedule with a consistent 3-day workweek and paid training, with 12-hour shifts.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Reliable vehicle with insurance.
- Ability to work scheduled 12-hour shifts
- Physical ability to to work in a variety of environments including navigating stairs and other barriers in private residences.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in direct care, caregiving, home health, behavioral health, or related support roles is helpful, but not required. Training is provided.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily, individualized care focused on client safety, health, and well-being
- Assist with personal care, including hygiene, grooming, feeding, and mobility
- Help with daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and routine support
- Follow each client’s Person Centered Plan (PCP) and behavior support plan
- Support clients in building independence, daily living skills, and social skills
- Transport clients to appointments, shopping, and community outings
- Complete daily documentation and incident reports accurately and on time
- Respond to crisis situations and emergencies with professionalism and empathy
- Support clients with communication needs, including adaptive communication tools when needed
- Additional duties as required to meet client needs
