About The Position

The Museum of Modern Art is seeking a Development Officer to manage events, revenue, and membership growth for The Black Arts Council (BAC). This role involves collaborating with various MoMA departments and leadership to foster appreciation for art and artists of the African diaspora, amplify Black perspectives, and achieve significant fundraising goals. The Development Officer will cultivate donor relationships, drive membership, and oversee a robust calendar of events to support the BAC's mission and financial objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five or more years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, membership, philanthropy, or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment and independently manage multiple projects at once.
  • Interest in and knowledge of contemporary art, museums, and the cultural ecosystem of New York City.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google workspace.
  • Facility to work with numbers, budgets and financial data.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CRM systems and Salesforce is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently create and manage the annual program and processes for The Black Arts Council (BAC), a dues-paying donor group focused on art and artists of the African diaspora.
  • Develop strategies to achieve annual membership revenue goals through cultivation and stewardship of over 150 donors, including key donors and MoMA Trustees.
  • Drive membership growth through proactive recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Craft strategies to achieve a seven-figure fundraising goal for the annual Black Arts Council benefit.
  • Research donors and sell event tickets and tables.
  • Work closely with the Department of Special Events to coordinate advance aspects, including securing honorees, co-chairs, and performers.
  • In coordination with MoMA and BAC leadership, solicit endowment funds from BAC members.
  • Develop prospect lists and materials.
  • Drive continued growth and stewardship of existing BAC endowments that support exhibitions, programs, and acquisitions of work by Black artists.
  • Manage relationships with BAC Co-Chairs and Executive Committee members, planning engaging meetings, and ensuring a robust annual calendar of activities (20+ BAC events per year) that furthers the BAC’s mission and financial goals.
  • Represent the Museum professionally at external and art world events.
  • Conceptualize, produce, and host BAC events throughout the year, overseeing invitations, event production, and coordination with MoMA Security.
  • Manage BAC outreach strategy, including publication and dissemination of weekly newsletters.
  • Oversee membership processes, including gift acknowledgements, and maintain confidential records in the Museum’s CRM system.
  • Ensure compliance with Museum accounting and audit policies.
  • Create and manage the annual BAC expense budget, process invoices, and track expenses.
  • Assist Human Resources in the selection process for the annual Black Arts Council-funded intern.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
