About The Position

Built to develop tomorrow's leaders across the core pillars of our business, our two-year Development Graduate Programme builds deep expertise in Middle Office functions: Operations and Deals Desk. This programme is designed for graduates who want to build a long-term, high-impact career in supply chain logistics and risk management: the critical functions that enable global commodity flows and keep every aspect of our business running. This is a dedicated route into Middle Office careers, where the ambition is to become an expert and leader in these functions. Our two-year Development Graduate Programme in Calgary begins in October 2027 and offers structured rotations across key Middle Office functions, with cross-product exposure across both Energy and Metals & Minerals, giving you broad market knowledge and a versatile foundation for a career in Operations and Risk. The programme comprises three 8-month rotations: Deals Desk Energy, Operations Energy, and Operations Metals & Minerals. Throughout the programme, graduates gain practical experience and exposure to the full trade lifecycle, working at the core of our operations. By building expertise across these critical functions, graduates develop a strong foundation for success in Middle Office roles in Operations and Deals Desk, and are well-positioned to grow into future leadership positions. Guided by some of the most experienced professionals in the industry, graduates receive ongoing support and development opportunities, providing them with the skills, mindset and confidence to help shape the next chapter of our business, from the Middle Office at its core. You won't be shadowing. You'll be doing. From early in the programme, you'll be building real working relationships with internal teams, counterparties and traders developing the credibility and expertise that underpin every successful Middle Office career at Trafigura. We'll give you all the support you need to succeed. But the drive to learn, grow and take ownership of your development has to come from you.

Requirements

  • Quantitative degree (minimum 2:1 or international equivalent) in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or related STEM field
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a real asset
  • Maximum of 2 years post-graduate work experience - prior internship experience in commodities, trading, banking or a related field is a plus
  • Genuine interest in the commodities industry - curious about global markets, geopolitical events and the forces that shape supply and demand
  • Globally mobile and open to working across different geographies and cultures
  • Strong numerical and analytical aptitude, and comfort working with data
  • Structured methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Able to build strong, lasting relationships across cultures and functions
  • Resilient and composed under pressure
  • Proactive, self-directed and genuinely driven to perform
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and verifying trades and trade terms with rigour and accuracy
  • Producing daily P&L and exposure reports used by senior traders and management
  • Liaising with traders, operations and finance to reconcile positions
  • Investigating and resolving trade discrepancies independently and at pace
  • Managing vessel or land logistics and end-to-end documentation
  • Liaising directly with counterparties and terminals worldwide
  • Tracking cargo movements and inventories in real time
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements
