About The Position

This role supports Development Engineering (DE) tests in a manufacturing pilot line or performs testing in a lab environment. The technician will use their engineering and technical skills to interpret instructions, execute experiments, and analyze outcomes. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting various tool/process issues, suggesting system improvements, and designing, executing, and presenting test data. The position also involves writing work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation. The role requires applying technical skills, adapting procedures for complex requirements, and resolving questions and problems independently. The technician will have ownership of a particular operational process or equipment within their functional group, overseeing maintenance and training others. This is a full-time position with a standard work schedule, but occasional flexibility and overtime may be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years of relevant technical experience
  • OR Associate’s Degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline and 3 years of relevant technical experience
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline, without prior technical work experience
  • 2 years of experience as a Development Engineer Technician I at First Solar (if applicable to the above education paths)
  • General electrical/electronic and mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to perform sample testing, semiconductor device fabrication and/or electrical or optical measurements
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic to moderate process and equipment issues on the production line or in the lab
  • Expert in execution of experiments in lab or floor
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate between multiple groups
  • A self-starter with ability to troubleshoot and resolve tool issues
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (including but not limited to steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
  • Ability to wear a respirator at any given time (requires little or no facial hair)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of at least one programming language and prior work or school projects demonstrating this competency

Responsibilities

  • Support DE tests in manufacturing pilot line or perform testing in lab environment
  • Interpret instructions into actions and experimental outcome
  • Perform troubleshooting on various tool/process issues and suggest system improvements to achieve performance goals
  • Design, execute and present the test data from experiments
  • Write work instructions and SOP’s for operating equipment
  • Apply technical skills to the position
  • Adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position
  • Resolve many questions and problems independently
  • Take ownership within his/her functional group of a particular operational process or equipment
  • Oversee maintenance and train others in this process
  • Perform tool set up, and process optimization/development
  • Operate and maintain tools
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance
  • Plan, coordinate and execute engineering tests on Yellowstone line, including coordination across team boundaries
  • Work under minimal supervision
  • Comply with Company's Environmental, Quality, Safety or any other policies that have been enforced
  • Assist with critical process development of laser systems and scribe parameters
