About The Position

Boston College is seeking a Development Assistant to join University Advancement as they enter the fourth year of the public phase of their $3B comprehensive campaign, Soaring Higher. This role supports fundraisers, university colleagues, and external constituents in securing philanthropic support for the University. University Advancement is described as a centralized organizational structure of 250 people offering diverse roles across fundraising, alumni relations, operations, and communications and engagement. They invest in professional growth and seek ambitious team members committed to their mission, valuing inclusion and belonging. The Development Assistant will work alongside fundraisers to develop, support, and maintain programs and activities consistent with securing philanthropic support for the University. The position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication, and discretion with confidential data. Two separate roles are available within distinct fundraising units: Athletic Advancement and Major Giving. Candidates will be considered for either or both based on interest and background. The role is eligible for overtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 2-3 years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a professional setting
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including effective phone communication skills
  • Accurate typing skills
  • A working knowledge of Windows PC, including Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management databases
  • Exceptional proofreading
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A commitment to accuracy
  • Very adept at handling multiple tasks and working well within deadlines
  • Good judgment
  • Discretion in handling confidential materials
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision

  • Game day support for all home football games is encouraged but not required (for Athletic Advancement unit)

Responsibilities

  • Supports all aspects of fundraising volunteer management, including maintaining the internal database and volunteer management system
  • Prepares materials for fundraiser prospect visits
  • Makes travel arrangements
  • Completes transmittal forms for pledges and gifts received
  • Files visit reports in the Customer Relationship Management database
  • Drafts gift acknowledgments
  • Requests research and pulling additional donor or prospect information from various systems
  • Supports the work associated with external constituents’ visits to campus, meetings and special events, often interfacing with the Programs and Events team, to maximize event effectiveness within budgetary guidelines.
  • Partnering with the Athletics Annual Fund and Athletics Stewardship staff, managing the production of Advancement briefings for the Director of Athletics, and producing fundraising progress reports for the Director of Athletics and other internal constituents (for Athletic Advancement unit).
  • Provide support to the Associate Vice President of Major Giving, the Northeast Director and two Major Gift fundraisers, and the Sr. Associate Director of Benefactor Events (for Major Giving unit).
  • Provide administrative support for BC’s Pops on the Heights Scholarship Gala and the Wall Street Tribute Dinner (for Major Giving unit).
