About The Position

The Development Assistant (DA) works alongside fundraisers, university colleagues and external constituents to develop, support and maintain programs and activities consistent with securing philanthropic support for the University. Primary responsibilities include: Supports all aspects of fundraising volunteer management, including maintaining the internal database and volunteer management system Prepares materials for fundraiser prospect visits Makes travel arrangements Completes transmittal forms for pledges and gifts received Files visit reports in the Customer Relationship Management database Drafts gift acknowledgments Requests research and pulling additional donor or prospect information from various systems Done well, these tasks assist fundraisers in identifying the most desirable prospects and donors. DAs also support the work associated with external constituents’ visits to campus, meetings and special events, often interfacing with the Programs and Events team, to maximize event effectiveness within budgetary guidelines. Given the extensive independent contact with external constituents including alumni and parent volunteers, donors, and university officials, this position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy; excellent oral and written communications skills; and complete discretion regarding the handling and storing of confidential data. We are seeking to fill two (2) separate roles, each situated in a distinct fundraising unit. Candidates will be considered for either or both roles based on their interest and background. Units are listed alphabetically and represent equal, parallel positions: Athletic Advancement: This unit is focused on managing the qualification, solicitation, and stewarding of individual giving from alumni, parents, and friends for gifts between $100,000 $1,000,000. The DA will interface frequently with members of the Athletics department and University Advancement. This work includes partnering with the Athletics Annual Fund and Athletics Stewardship staff, managing the production of Advancement briefings for the Director of Athletics, and producing fundraising progress reports for the Director of Athletics and other internal constituents. Please note that game day support for all home football games is encouraged but not required. Major Giving: This unit is focused on managing the qualification, solicitation, and stewarding of individual giving from alumni, parents, and friends for gifts between $250,000 and $4,999,000. The DA will provide support to the Associate Vice President of Major Giving, the Northeast Director and two Major Gift fundraisers, and the Sr. Associate Director of Benefactor Events. The DA will also provide administrative support for BC’s Pops on the Heights Scholarship Gala and the Wall Street Tribute Dinner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a professional setting
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills including effective phone communication skills
  • Accurate typing skills
  • A working knowledge of Windows PC, including Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Customer Relationship Management databases
  • Exceptional proofreading

  • Very adept at handling multiple tasks and working well within deadlines
  • Good judgment
