About The Position

AssemblyAI is seeking a Developer Relations Evangelist with a focus on community to act as the liaison between AssemblyAI and the developer ecosystem building with voice AI. This role requires a strong presence in San Francisco, with significant travel for sponsoring meetups, live API demonstrations, and engaging directly with developers. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, deeply familiar with the San Francisco Bay Area developer scene, and skilled at leveraging relationships, content, and events to drive momentum for AssemblyAI. This is a high-visibility, high-ownership position reporting to Marketing, with close collaboration with the founding team, growth engineering, field marketing, and product teams.

Requirements

  • 2-3+ years of experience in developer relations, developer evangelism, developer marketing, technical community management, or a similar role at a developer-first or API company.
  • A genuinely technical foundation, capable of building working demos with APIs, debugging code on stage, and engaging in credible conversations with engineers and AI builders.
  • Demonstrated track record of growing a developer community or creator network, with quantifiable results.
  • Strong content creation skills, including writing tutorials, editing demo videos, and crafting effective social media posts.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm for public speaking, hosting events, attending industry events, live API demonstrations, and building relationships in person.
  • Energized by travel and being on the road.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Genuine excitement about voice AI, AI agents, and the current landscape of AI-native builders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior hands-on engineering experience.
  • Existing relationships within the San Francisco AI builder, vibe coder, or voice AI ecosystem.
  • Prior experience running hackathons, developer conferences, or large-scale community programs.
  • A personal online presence (technical YouTube, X, newsletter, GitHub) demonstrating public building.
  • Experience working closely with founders and small, fast-moving marketing teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own the AssemblyAI developer community, including building, growing, and nurturing it across platforms like Reddit, social channels, and in-person interactions.
  • Act as the proactive face of AssemblyAI in online conversations across X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Discord, Hacker News, and other platforms where voice AI builders congregate.
  • Monitor competitor and category mentions, engage in relevant discussions, and provide insights to the product and marketing teams.
  • Develop programs such as ambassador programs and beta cohorts to foster developer advocacy and recognize outstanding contributions.
  • Drive a creator and influencer engine by co-creating demos, tutorials, and short-form videos with creators and partners, with a focus on the Voice Agent API.
  • Ship demos, sample apps, and viral technical content to showcase the capabilities of AssemblyAI.
  • Identify potential influencers and partner with technical content creators on platforms like YouTube, X, TikTok, and newsletters.
  • Conduct live demonstrations of real-time APIs at meetups, hackathons, and developer events, traveling over 40% of the time.
  • Develop a library of demo scenarios, sample apps, and "wow moments" for easy deployment at events.
  • Provide on-the-ground support for AssemblyAI's developer events in San Francisco, including meetups and hackathons.
  • Represent AssemblyAI at developer events across the US, engaging with builders, identifying partners, and gathering market intelligence.
  • Help conceive and execute high-leverage community moments, such as coding hackathons and partner collaborations.
  • Partner with product marketing to amplify launches through creator content, community activations, and developer-focused storytelling.
  • Generate community feedback to inform positioning, messaging, and roadmap decisions.
  • Build relationships with adjacent ecosystem partners, including LLM providers, voice frameworks, and AI development tool companies, for co-marketing opportunities.
