About The Position

Wafer is hiring a Developer Advocate to help developers choose Wafer for fast inference by demonstrating its capabilities through real code and measurable performance. Wafer builds AI systems that automatically optimize inference workloads across silicon and serves mission-critical workloads for fast-growing AI startups. Developers access Wafer through its API and routers such as OpenRouter and Vercel AI Gateway. The role combines engineering, writing, and developer marketing. The Developer Advocate will create launch content for new models, build examples and integrations, explain performance with trustworthy benchmarks, own documentation and developer experience, and represent Wafer in developer communities. The position is on-site in San Francisco five days per week, on a small team with broad ownership and autonomy. Success is measured by how many developers try Wafer and how many continue using it.

Requirements

  • Engineering experience and the ability to build real applications using LLM APIs.
  • Ability to write production-quality sample code.
  • Ability to write clearly and quickly.
  • Ability to show posts, videos, documentation, or talks that developers have engaged with.
  • Credibility with skeptical engineers, including the ability to defend benchmarks with data and acknowledge valid criticism.
  • Ability to work without a specification and ship continuously.

Nice To Haves

  • An existing audience in AI, infrastructure, or developer tools, or a track record of building one.
  • Technical depth in inference, including latency, throughput, quantization, and differences in provider performance.

Responsibilities

  • Ship launch content for every new model Wafer serves, including posts, benchmarks, code samples, and demos, often within hours of a release.
  • Build examples, integrations, and tutorials demonstrating what fast inference enables, such as coding agents, voice agents, and real-time applications.
  • Create trusted content about Wafer’s performance, including benchmarks with clear methodology and technical deep dives into model optimization.
  • Own Wafer’s documentation and developer experience; identify onboarding issues and resolve them or coordinate their resolution.
  • Represent Wafer in developer communities, including X, Hacker News, Discord, Reddit, meetups, and conferences.
  • Bring developer feedback to product and engineering teams.
  • Build developer marketing while doing the work directly, and operate autonomously.
