About The Position

As the Dev QA Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality assurance strategy, managing QA teams, and ensuring that testing efforts align with project goals. You’ll guide testers and analysts, collaborate with developers and production, and maintain high standards for stability, functionality, and player experience.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in video game QA, often with 3+ years in a senior or lead role.
  • Significant experience in QA testing, QA analysis, or embedded QA roles within game development.
  • Strong understanding of game development workflows and tools (Unity, Unreal, or proprietary engines).
  • Proficiency with bug tracking systems (Jira, DevTrack, Hansoft, etc.).
  • Ability to write and review clear, concise, and technically detailed bug reports.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven leadership or mentorship experience within QA.
  • Ability to manage testing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience contributing to at least one shipped game or major feature set.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with version control systems (Perforce, Git).
  • Experience with automation tools or scripting.
  • Understanding of performance testing, profiling, or memory analysis.
  • Knowledge of console certification requirements or platform-specific testing.
  • Experience building or improving QA pipelines, tools, or dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support Dev QA testers and analysts, helping them grow their skills and effectiveness.
  • Assign testing tasks, manage workloads, and ensure coverage across features and milestones.
  • Review bug reports, test cases, and documentation to maintain clarity and consistency.
  • Foster a culture of quality, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and maintain QA processes, standards, and best practices across the project.
  • Create and oversee test plans, test cases, and risk assessments for major systems and features.
  • Partner with production to estimate QA scope, plan resources, and track quality‑related risks.
  • Support integration testing when new systems or content are merged.
  • Use debugging tools, logs, and engine features to investigate issues at a deeper technical level.
  • Work closely with designers, engineers, and producers to understand feature goals and technical constraints.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand‑ups, and feature reviews to stay aligned with development progress.
  • Communicate blockers, risks, and quality concerns clearly and proactively to stakeholders.
  • Help maintain build stability through smoke tests, validation checks, and proactive issue identification.
  • Contribute to improving QA tools, dashboards, and workflows to increase efficiency and consistency.
