About The Position
Performs difficult protective service and human support work ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail through essential functions such as processing inmates, maintaining jail security, serving meals, and transporting inmates. This role requires related work as required and is performed under regular supervision.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution
- Ability to obtain the NC General Detention Officer Certificate within 12 months of employment
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- Thorough knowledge of the security, rules, regulations, and procedures of the institution
- Thorough knowledge of the practices of modern penology as related to the supervision and care of persons under institutionalized restraint
- Ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly
- Ability to detect potential behavior problems of inmates
- Ability to detect the early symptoms of common health problems
- Ability to carry out oral and written directions accurately
- Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility
- Ability to supervise the activities of large groups of inmates
- Ability to prepare records and reports
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
