About The Position

At Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, Texas, the Detention Officer is responsible for the custody and security of non-citizens assigned to the facility. The role involves observing non-citizens, maintaining facility security, responding to emergencies, and following assigned post orders. Officers may transfer or transport non-citizens on foot or in vehicles and may need to restrain assaultive individuals. The position also requires reviewing relevant detainee records, sharing appropriate information with personnel, and preparing and maintaining records, forms, and reports. The job pays $25.76 per hour and includes a $1,000 hiring bonus. Shifts are 12 hours, either 6 p.m.–6 a.m. or 6 a.m.–6 p.m., depending on facility needs at the time of assignment. Shifts follow a bi-weekly schedule with a three-day weekend every other weekend, excluding overtime.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Successfully complete required pre-service training.
Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.

Responsibilities

Provide custody and security of non-citizens, including observing them in assigned areas.
Search for contraband and perform security functions, including pat and strip searches.
Respond to emergencies, including running, climbing stairs, and using physical force to restrain non-citizens when necessary.
Work all assigned posts, comply with post orders, and perform the duties outlined in those orders.
Transfer and transport non-citizens by walking or riding in vehicles when required.
Restrain and secure assaultive non-citizens as needed.
Read, review, and apply information in detainee records related to health, safety, and facility security; provide appropriate information to other personnel.
Prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports as appropriate.
