About The Position

Under general supervision, provides for the care, custody, and control of inmates. This role involves observing and supervising inmate activities, maintaining the safety and security of the facility, personnel, and inmates, and processing inmate bookings and releases. The position also requires conducting searches, performing inventories, and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Must possess required certification(s).
  • Integrity, honesty, dependability, industry, thoroughness, accuracy, good judgment, initiative, and courtesy.
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation to include, but not limited to polygraph, psychological, and physical fitness test.
  • Must successfully complete a minimum six (6) month probation period.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of detention.
  • Knowledge of principles of human behavior.
  • Knowledge of functions of the criminal justice system, restraint procedures, and court proceedings.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Knowledge of clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and report writing.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping.
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Skill in organization and adherence to detail.
  • Ability to observe or monitor objects, data, and/or behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
  • Ability to analyze, detect, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies or stressful situations calmly, quickly, and decisively.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Ability to keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Ability to remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Ability to act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

  • Observes, controls, and supervises inmate activities.
  • Maintains the safety and physical security of the facility, personnel, and inmates.
  • Physically escorts inmates by vehicle or on foot.
  • Processes inmate bookings and releases and maintains other Detention Records.
  • Performs physical search of inmates and facility.
  • Conducts inventories of detention facility supplies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
