About The Position

The position requires demonstrated knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering modeling, and CAD tools, especially on Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling and the ability to perform engineering calculations that support and validate design decisions. Working within the Engineering Team, the designer independently develops designs or adaptations with distinctive features, drawing on the best combination of design data, manufacturing knowledge, and technical standards to produce final models and drawings. This role also utilizes current manufacturing and business systems for cost, inventory, and purchasing information, and supports design team activities to ensure projects meet their specifications, requirements, and deadlines. The position ensures compliance with all company policies, procedures, and processes, and manages special projects as assigned. Participation in FET’s Health, Safety, and Environment program is required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of drafting techniques and Autodesk Inventor 3D Modeling
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and interpret engineering calculations (e.g., load, stress, dimensional, fit, and tolerance analysis) to support and validate design decisions.
  • Strong understanding of drafting standards, drawing conventions and revision control.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and independently on assigned tasks.
  • Hands-on Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years prior experience in a manufacturing/assembly environment preferred.
  • Experience applying engineering calculations to support design work (stress, load, fit/tolerance) preferred.
  • Prior design experience using thin plate and sheet metal (3/16” and ¼”)
  • Fabrication experience considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a contributor role as part of the Engineering Team, supporting design projects from concept through final documentation.
  • Develop detailed drawings for complex engineering systems and structures under the supervision of a senior engineer or design lead.
  • Perform engineering calculations to support and validate design decisions, including stress, load, dimensional, and fit/tolerance analysis.
  • Produce assembly layouts, sectional drawings, work instructions, and catalog dimension drawings.
  • Generate casting and machining drawings and associated bills of materials as directed by supervisor or as required by project scope.
  • Ensure drawings are in accordance with company design, documentation, and production standards.
  • Ensure compliance with approved design standards to provide quality, safety, manufacturability, reliable operation, design economy, and operating convenience.
  • Develop and maintain 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create complete drawing packages, including part drawings, assembly drawings with BOMs and callouts, and manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
  • Apply drawing standards, revision control practices, and drafting conventions to all CAD deliverables.
  • Check drawings for accuracy, format, and completeness before release.
  • Occasional responsibility to work with production as an engineering liaison to document and resolve product manufacturing issues.
  • Interpret and apply fits, tolerances, materials specifications, and manufacturing constraints to ensure designs are producible.
  • Work in a shop environment when required to support service, assembly, or prototype activities.
  • Support reverse engineering efforts, accurately measure and document existing parts to produce take-off drawings as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate tasks as assigned; manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a production environment.
  • Interface with project team members, vendors, and shop personnel to achieve on-time delivery of projects.
  • Determine tolerance and other drawing requirements by reading and interpreting technical specifications.
  • Within the scope of the job requirements, adhere to and comply with local and federal law, the Company Quality Program, and all procedures and policies including HSE.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
