About The Position

As a Designer 2, Women’s, you have the opportunity to design product solutions that align with Veilance design philosophies that continuously exceed our guests’ evolving needs. In this role, you design for our Veilance product category, with a specific focus on women’s product and perspective. You bring your curiosity and passion for product to imagine and build innovative, relevant and resolved designs for the city environment. You are an innovative problem solver with a focus on collaborative teamwork. This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is expected to be performed on-site. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. We are innovative problem solvers with a focus on collaborative teamwork. Fueled by curiosity, we take an immersive approach to identifying future needs in city environments, then build, test, and validate high-end product solutions.

Requirements

  • Degree in Design (Apparel or Industrial, or Textile Engineering)
  • 5+ years hands-on experience designing apparel products, with a specific focus on designing women’s product
  • Capability to create tools and construction methods to assist in solving construction issues
  • Constant finger on the pulse of evolving city cultures and evolving markets, but seek a timeless solve over temporary trends
  • Technical expert, comfortable translating digital data to physical (and vice versa), with experience using CLO3D, Adobe Illustrator
  • Excellent team player with the ability to take direction and work independently
  • Technical and creative skills to pattern and prototype
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right

Responsibilities

  • Creating and executing assigned product designs alongside your senior leaders that are future oriented and user-centric
  • Helping to define the current and future global guest, their needs and expectations through building mood boards, and visualizing consumer journeys and market analysis
  • Contributing to the commercialization of innovative technologies, including materials, pattern, and construction techniques for existing and new product categories
  • Creating patterns, mock ups, and prototypes to explore, resolve, or prove new concepts or construction techniques
  • Providing detailed product initiations to the Product Development team, including spec drawings, pattern and fit directions, and material information
  • Collaborating with the Fit & Pattern team to resolve fit style and construction issues, and ensure a fully commercialized product
  • Coordinating with the Materials team to test new materials and ensure that necessary items are available for prototyping
  • Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the materials and manufacturing techniques that Veilance works with
  • Collaborating closely with other Designers to bring new and better toolbox solutions that benefit the brand (such as new technologies, construction techniques, features, etc.)
  • Staying up to date with industry trends
  • Assisting with current product design changes where necessary, in order to address in-line production issues
  • Supporting the Design Director/Senior Designers in developing a schedule for the flow of the line plan through all development stages, including charting line plan progress
  • Partnering with the Development and Merchandising teams on concepting and prototyping for seasonal products to gain visibility into cost estimates, MOQs and LOM concerns
  • Presenting at internal meetings, design reviews and seasonal stage gates, annual seasonal handoffs and other product meetings as required
  • Attending trade shows, company events as well as sourcing and development vendor visits as required
  • Contributing to the long-term strategic plan for Women’s apparel at Veilance
  • Collaborating with various design activity leaders to identify new product opportunities and propose product solutions
  • Working closely with our Development teams and innovation partnerships to challenge and evolve the way we bring innovative ideas to production
