The Experience Design team at OnePay focuses on shaping how millions of users interact with their money, particularly for those underserved by traditional finance. This team is small, senior, and collaborative, with members having backgrounds from companies like Apple, Meta, and Airbnb. They emphasize high craft and utilize AI as a baseline in their work. The Design Systems Engineer role is crucial for architecting the design platform, going beyond simple library maintenance to build the infrastructure that enables designers, engineers, product, marketing, and creative teams to confidently consume and extend the system. The role emphasizes building AI-native design systems, connecting the design system to an AI layer for system-compliant code generation and AI-assisted workflows. The engineer will collaborate with the Design Engineer on the design-to-code pipeline and work across the organization to ensure the platform's utility.

Requirements

• Deep experience with design system architecture across Figma and code.
• Hands-on work integrating AI into design and engineering workflows – MCPs, LLM integrations, automation.
• Fluency in design tokens, component architecture, and how design systems map to production code.
• Scripting or plugin development experience (Figma plugins, APIs, or similar).
• A track record of building systems that serve audiences beyond designers and engineers.
• Comfort defining and tracking what success looks like: adoption, speed, consistency, design-to-production fidelity.

Responsibilities

• Architect the design platform for OnePay, building the infrastructure that allows designers, engineers, product, marketing, and creative teams to consume and extend the system with confidence.
• Build AI-native design systems, connecting the design system to the AI layer so designers can use AI tools that understand the system, engineers can generate code that’s already system-compliant, and the gap between design and production shrinks.
• Develop MCPs, token pipelines, LLM-aware components, and AI-generated variants that stay on-system.
• Work closely with the Design Engineer to evolve the design-to-code pipeline.
• Partner across the organization to make the platform genuinely useful beyond design and engineering.
• Think about adoption, extensibility, and the people downstream who depend on what you ship.
• Question fundamentals and design infrastructure that’s native to how teams work now.
• Serve the whole organization: designers, engineers, product, marketing, creative.
• Ship infrastructure others use.
• Define and track what success looks like: adoption, speed, consistency, design-to-production fidelity.
