About The Position

As a Design Systems Engineer – Turbomachinery at Honeywell Aerospace, you will contribute to developing tools and methods used to design turbomachinery compression systems. You will work with a broader design systems team supporting Honeywell Aerospace Engines and Power Systems, developing software tools that combine proprietary, commercial, and AI/ML elements. The role focuses on accelerating workflows for the fan and compressor product design organization, reducing cycle time, and eliminating non-value-added work. You will also provide instruction, technical mentoring, documentation, and support to fan and compressor customers. The position reports directly to the Senior Engineering Manager and is based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must qualify as a U.S. person under export-control requirements and be authorized to work full time in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 2 years with a master’s degree.
  • At least 1 year of experience writing and maintaining production-quality software in C++, Python, MATLAB, Fortran, C#, or a similar language.
  • At least 3 years of experience building software with a substantial technical or numerical core, such as solvers, simulation codes, geometry or meshing tools, optimization frameworks, or engineering analysis applications.
  • Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, solid mechanics or structural dynamics, or numerical methods for partial differential equations.
  • At least 3 years of experience with modern software practices, including version control (Git), code review, and automated testing.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the United States under asylum or refugee status.

Nice To Haves

  • Development of or contributions to physics-based solvers, including FEA, CFD, or reduced-order methods such as streamline curvature/throughflow, flutter, forced response, or aeroelastic analysis.
  • Computational geometry experience, such as NURBS/B-spline surfaces, parametric geometry, geometry kernels (Open CASCADE or Parasolid), or mesh generation.
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery aerodynamics or blade structural dynamics.
  • Experience with verification and validation of numerical software, regression testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to work directly with design engineers, understand their workflows, and translate them into clear software requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support compression-system design by developing software tools with a broader design systems team, combining proprietary, commercial, and AI/ML elements.
  • Accelerate workflows used by the fan and compressor product design organization to reduce cycle time and eliminate non-value-added work.
