About The Position

As a Design Systems Engineer – Turbomachinery at Honeywell Aerospace, you will join a team developing tools and methods used to design turbomachinery compression systems at Honeywell Aerospace Engines and Power Systems. The role supports the design of compression systems by developing software tools that combine proprietary, commercial, and AI/ML elements. It focuses on accelerating workflows used by the fan and compressor product design organization to reduce cycle time and eliminate non-value-added work. The position also provides instruction, technical mentoring, documentation, and support to fan and compressor customers. The role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager and is based in Phoenix, Arizona, on a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 2 years with a master’s degree.
  • At least 1 year of experience writing and maintaining production-quality software in C++, Python, MATLAB, Fortran, C#, or a similar language.
  • At least 3 years of experience building software with a substantial technical or numerical core, such as solvers, simulation codes, geometry or meshing tools, optimization frameworks, or engineering analysis applications.
  • Working knowledge of fluid mechanics, solid mechanics or structural dynamics, or numerical methods for partial differential equations.
  • At least 3 years of experience with modern software practices, including version control (Git), code review, and automated testing.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by applicable U.S. export control laws and regulations: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected status under asylum or refugee status.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Development of or contributions to physics-based solvers, including FEA, CFD, or reduced-order methods such as streamline curvature or throughflow, flutter, forced response, or aeroelastic analysis.
  • Computational geometry experience, such as NURBS or B-spline surfaces, parametric geometry, geometry kernels (Open CASCADE or Parasolid), or mesh generation.
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery aerodynamics or blade structural dynamics.
  • Experience with verification and validation of numerical software, regression testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to work directly with design engineers, understand their workflows, and translate them into clear software requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support compression-system design by contributing to a broader design systems team developing software tools that combine proprietary, commercial, and AI/ML elements.
  • Prioritize acceleration of fan and compressor product-design workflows to reduce cycle time and eliminate non-value-added work.
  • Provide instruction, technical mentoring, documentation, and support to fan and compressor customers.

Benefits

  • Employer-subsidized medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) match.
  • Flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts.
  • Employee assistance program.
  • Educational assistance.
  • Parental leave.
  • 12 paid holidays.
