About The Position

The Design Release Engineer leads the design, development, and validation of driveline systems and components, primarily Power Transfer Units and Rear Drive Modules, from concept through production. The role focuses on robust performance, reliability, durability, and system integration, and involves close collaboration with engineering teams, suppliers, and program stakeholders. The engineer develops and executes validation plans, resolves technical issues through root cause analysis, drives supplier design approvals, and creates and maintains engineering best practices and documentation, including DFMEA and DVP documents. The position also includes generating and managing system and subsystem technical specifications, identifying opportunities to reduce total warranty costs, preparing technical reports and design reviews, and applying emerging driveline technologies and continuous improvement approaches to product designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of automotive engineering experience focused on driveline systems.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues and optimize designs.
  • Strong knowledge of driveline components, such as Power Transfer Units, Rear Drive Modules, gear reducers, axles, transfer cases, differentials, or gears.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to adapt to work on multiple programs; proactive, results-driven approach.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis tools such as fishbone analysis, Is-Is Not, 3L5Y, and Red X.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Working-level experience decomposing intended function into requirements.
  • Experience with in-vehicle problem diagnosis and NVH evaluations.
  • Knowledge of CAE/CFD to collaborate with virtual analysis teams.
  • Assembly and computer-aided design experience with NX or CATIA.
  • Experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R).
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Action-oriented approach, ability to deal with ambiguity, customer focus, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of driveline systems and components, primarily Power Transfer Units and Rear Drive Modules.
  • Collaborate with CAE, NVH, durability, vehicle dynamics, packaging, and manufacturing teams to support system integration and performance.
  • Develop and execute validation plans, including component and system bench and vehicle testing, to verify driveline performance and durability.
  • Identify and resolve driveline technical issues using root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Drive supplier design selection approvals through appropriate assessments and adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Create, implement, and manage engineering best practices and core DFMEA and DVP documents related to driveline systems.
  • Seek opportunities to improve designs, processes, and products through innovative solutions and best practices.
  • Generate and manage detailed system and subsystem technical specifications (SSTS/TTS), ensuring functional objectives are met and requirements align with suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce total warranty costs and propose technical solutions.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design reviews, and project updates to stakeholders.
