About The Position

The Design Project Manager leads the design and documentation phases of mission-critical data center projects, from conceptual design through completion of construction documents. The role requires technical knowledge of relevant architectural and engineering disciplines, including power, cooling, and structural design. The manager leads multidisciplinary internal and external teams and ensures designs meet performance, cost, schedule, quality, operational, and code requirements for 24/7/365 facilities. The position is based in Dallas, Texas, with a hybrid work arrangement. The role manages design scope, consultant fees, schedules, deliverables, quality assurance and quality control, BIM/Revit coordination, stakeholder requirements, and coordination among architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines. It also supports construction administration by reviewing and responding to RFIs and submittals, and works with equipment teams to integrate technical data into the design package.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of project management experience managing large-scale, complex data center, mission-critical, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated professional expertise and deep knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure, such as critical power paths, cooling topologies, and structural load requirements.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external A/E firms.
  • Proficiency with Procore project management software and collaboration tools such as Bluebeam.
  • Familiarity with Revit/BIM environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead internal design teams and Architectural and Engineering consultants through conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction-document phases for new builds and facility retrofits.
  • Coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering work to deliver fully coordinated designs.
  • Ensure design documents comply with company data center design standards, industry best practices, and applicable local and national codes and regulations.
  • Manage design scope and track consultant fees against the approved budget; identify, mitigate, and process changes to A/E scope.
  • Own the schedule and quality of design deliverables, including drawing sets, technical specifications, and Basis of Design documents.
  • Implement quality assurance and quality control processes for technical documentation before internal review, permitting, or construction-bid release.
  • Oversee compliance with BIM standards and protocols and maintain coordination and data integrity across design models.
  • Work with internal stakeholders—including Operations, Equipment, Solutions Engineering, Architects, Engineers, IT, Security, and Commissioning—to capture and validate requirements and support long-term operational needs.
  • Support the Construction team by leading review and timely responses to RFIs and submittals, with a focus on technical compliance with design intent.
  • Collaborate with the internal critical equipment team to integrate technical data for equipment such as generators, UPS systems, and cooling units into the overall A/E design package.
