About The Position

The Facilities Workplace Design team is Rivian’s in-house design team focused on the physical typologies of the brand; Office and R+D facilities. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative thinker, with an experienced understanding of facility workplace and lab technical needs. The candidate will act as an architectural Design Manager subject matter expert for Workplace Facilities. This is a dynamic position focused on cross-functional collaboration and translating the Rivian workplace needs into spaces that are functional, efficient, executed in such a way that is representative of our compass values.

Requirements

  • Accredited bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Master’s degree and license preferred. (4+) years’ experience with office/lab project design and construction administration.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders across multiple functions and at all levels, both within and outside of the organization.
  • Proficient with Google Suite, Autodesk Revit and Autocad, Bluebeam Revu, Figma.
  • Master of developing and referencing construction documents.
  • Has an analytical, creative, innovative, and problem-solving mindset with an attention to detail
  • Able to coordinate multiple projects at the same time, with the ability to shift focus very quickly and adjust to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, negotiation, analytic, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience managing small and large-scale programs and projects.
  • Self-starter who is goal-oriented, highly motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and communicate design ideas through sketches, markups, drafting, or illustrations/renderings.
  • Lead design development discussions around given programs to define the scope of the project. Coordinate and collaborate internally: Operations, Construction Managers, Environ. Health and Safety, Engineering, Data/IT, Security.
  • Produce pricing packages (and/or narratives) that define the final scope of a project, to be used for direct pricing to GCs or as hand-off documents to consulting AEORs.
  • Independently coordinate and collaborate externally with consultants: architects, engineers, furniture & signage vendors, and fabricators.
  • Lead internal review efforts at documentation milestones. Point of contact for end-user specific questions.
  • Drive solutions for issues found in the field working with consulting architects/engineers.
  • Lead AEOR Request for Proposal process with Purchasing. Manage and track changes to contract/invoices.
  • Visit sites with operations and end users to evaluate existing conditions and capture field investigation - including photos and as-built drawings as required.
  • Oversee project execution; be Rivian’s design point of contact through construction.
  • Collaborate with Workplace Development team on programming development and drive project approvals based on project urgency and standard payback justifications.
  • Develop early concept packages including proposed floorplans, 3d modeling, and renderings via Revit/Enscape.
  • Drive solutions for issues found in the field, working with consulting architects/engineers.
  • Attend Equipment Supplier Coordination meetings, working closely with CapEx team to ensure proper responsibility expectations are set between Facilities Development and Vendor-Provided Equipment Integration Teams.
  • Lead and collaborate with internal Furniture team to ensure prototypical furniture is correctly tagged, incorporated into the drawings sets, procured and delivered. Work with the Construction team to ensure on a coordinated installation.
  • Lead and assist in presentation efforts using Figma or Google Slides.
  • Develop Post-occupancy reports on projects to shape future Workplace Design standards.
  • Contribute to the office and team culture, initiatives, and strategy conversations.
