About The Position

The Design Engineer role at Posh bridges the gap between Product, Design, and Engineering, focusing on the craft and quality of consumer software. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in product design who have transitioned into frontend/product engineering and wish to combine both skillsets. The Design Engineer will work on Posh's React Native event discovery app and React web tools, aiming to make the user experience feel alive and delightful. This role involves owning the quality of shipped products, empowering the engineering team with design-first frameworks, and contributing to the company's mission of building IRL communities. The position is based in Posh's NYC office.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building production frontend for consumer products.
  • At least 2+ years operating in a Design Engineer–style role where craft and product judgment are equals.
  • Deep comfort with React and React Native (ideal, but not required), TypeScript, and modern CSS.
  • Figma Fluency, including hands-on experience with shared component libraries and optimizing design systems.
  • A portfolio of shipped work where craft is prioritized, showcasing details like animation, edge cases, and typographic systems.
  • Strong product instincts, with the ability to create immersive prototypes from evolving PRDs.
  • A bias toward ownership, with the ability to take ambiguous problems, scope them, and ship delightful solutions independently.
  • Comfortable working in-person in NYC, 5 days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in consumer, social, or marketplace products.
  • Experience shaping or owning a cross-platform design system spanning web and React Native.
  • Background working closely with Senior Product Designers on consumer products.
  • Past experience as a tech lead on a small pod where you were the most product-minded engineer.
  • Side projects, open-source contributions, or public writing that demonstrate thinking about craft.

Responsibilities

  • Blur the lines between design and production code by collaborating with product, design, and engineering to narrow the gap between Figma prototypes and production-ready code.
  • Improve design system usability, optimize responsiveness and motion, and ensure new releases feel delightful.
  • Integrate deeply into the design review process, adding micro-interactions to product improvements and enabling the engineering team to prioritize delight.
  • Collaborate with design to maintain and grow the design system components, primitives, and tokens across mobile and web.
  • Build working prototypes using code as a thinking tool to resolve product debates and inform feature direction.
  • Mentor frontend engineers, run craft critiques, and set patterns and standards for shipped surfaces.
  • Bring unique insights from the intersection of design and engineering into roadmap conversations to influence product strategy and R&D.

Benefits

  • Equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment.
  • Prohibition of discrimination and harassment.
  • Commitment to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
