About The Position

Snap Inc. is hiring a Design Engineer for its Product Design team, a small team that steers the future of the core Snapchat application. The role works closely with the CEO and cross-functional leaders to create a design-led roadmap and build products and experiences that bring the community together. The Design Engineer conceives, prototypes, and iterates on products, quickly creating functional iOS prototypes and occasionally prototyping for web, AR, and AI. The role also builds creative tooling and internal systems, helps guide product design with engineering teams through launch, and collaborates with product designers and user researchers to test ideas and incorporate feedback. The position leads cross-functional work to refine shipped products and presents ideas directly to the CEO and company leadership. The role is based on Snap’s “default together” approach, with team members expected to work in an office four or more days per week.

Requirements

BS/BA in a technical field such as Computer Science, or equivalent years of experience.
Knowledge and understanding of iOS software engineering principles.
Ability to rapidly prototype fully functional mobile experiences.
Ability to determine when to set aside first principles for a quick proof of concept.
Ability to think at a high level about product strategy.
Creative problem-solving skills and ability to iterate on solutions to challenging problems.
Adaptability in learning and applying evolving AI systems and tools.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency with design and rapid-prototyping software, such as AI, Figma, Sketch, Framer, Origami, or Principle.
A distinctive perspective on Snap’s product, a unique understanding of a field, or expertise in areas such as hardware, AI, 3D graphics, or HCI.
A portfolio showcasing work and strong mobile design skills.

Responsibilities

Conceive, prototype, and iterate on new products.
Bring new ideas to life quickly through functional iOS prototypes.
Build creative tooling and internal systems that improve how teams across Snap work.
Occasionally prototype for other platforms, including web, AR, and AI.
Help drive the design process with engineering teams to ship new products to users.
Invent products by applying technical expertise and a passion for design.
Collaborate within a multifunctional design studio and learn new skills.
Work with product designers and user researchers to test ideas and iterate based on feedback.
Present and pitch ideas and work directly to the CEO and company leadership.
Lead cross-functional teams with product managers and engineering to polish and refine products for release.
