About The Position

Timken is seeking a Design Engineer for their Lovejoy brand. This role involves preparing engineering designs for products and components to support customer orders and internal development. The Design Engineer will provide engineering support to sales, product management, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality teams, and will also support external customers with real-time problem-solving, both on-site and remotely. Requirements

  • Solid modeling experience, Creo preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create assembly and component drawings.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and complete projects on time.
  • Strong communication skills – verbal, written, and presentation.
  • Learning agility.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Customer and team focus.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • ERP system experience, SAP preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • 3 years of experience in the mechanical component and assembly industry working with creation of models and drawings.
  • Candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Eligible candidates for access to US export controlled technical data are US Citizens, Green Card holders, Asylees or others eligible to receive US export license authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in coupling design and manufacturing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical liaison with the customer, defining application, technical parameters, and operating conditions.
  • Develop product designs (2D & 3D) that meet performance criteria, are optimized for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct engineering analysis using hand calculations and analytical tools (TK Solver, Mathcad, etc.).
  • Develop product documentation, including bills of material, 2D/3D product drawings, product specifications, engineering calculations, and installation instructions.
  • Execute material creation and deployment processes within SAP.
  • Validate product performance through physical testing, including developing test parameters, standards, and samples.
  • Operate test equipment, collect and analyze data, and publish engineering analysis.
  • Support innovation within the team.
  • Work closely with sales and product management teams to support and drive new and continuous product development projects.
  • Partner with the purchasing team in supplier selection and development.
  • Coach and train junior engineers, application engineers, and other engineering team members.
  • Participate in projects across multidisciplinary teams to achieve corporate strategic objectives.
  • Provide design support (application assessments, concept drawings, performance calculations, cost estimates) to application engineering and product management teams during quotation phases.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical product-related questions of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to address product concerns, change requests, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Utilize problem-solving skills to identify root cause and corrective actions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
