About The Position

The Design Engineer plays a critical role in partnering across the business to see projects through from launch to completion, on time and within budget. This role is responsible for collaborating with Business Development and Creative teams on design, material selections, value engineering, and pricing strategies. The position also involves establishing cost estimates for proposals, researching new materials and vendors, and leading supporting teams. The Design Engineer will manage project planning, organization, documentation, estimates, timelines, and tasks, ensuring effective project handoff from Estimating to Production Engineering. Additionally, the role requires completing AutoCAD drawings (2D and 3D, technical, graphic, CNC, and setup) and actively participating in internal project meetings.

Requirements

2-year degree in drafting / design
4+ years of experience in drafting and project management
Software proficiency (AutoCAD, MS Office-Excel, internet)

Nice To Haves

experience in retail, tradeshow or cabinetry strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Business Development and Creative teams on design, material selections, value engineering, and pricing strategies that will position STAR to win projects.
Establish and produce cost estimates for proposals, integrating design, graphics, production and services.
Research new materials and vendors for a given project.
Lead and provide work direction and guidance to supporting team (Production Engineer, CAD Engineer, Lead Builder, Production Manager, Graphic Project Manager, and outside vendors as needed).
Manage the planning, organization, documentation, estimates, timelines, and tasks of projects in partnership with Project Management.
Ensure effective project handoff from Estimating to Production Engineering.
Complete AutoCAD drawings (2D and 3D, technical, graphic, CNC, and setup) for assigned projects in a timely manner.
Actively participate in internal project meetings, including project margin and variance reviews, new business production meetings and project debriefs.
Complete daily reporting responsibilities.
