About The Position

The Design Engineer executes mechanical design from ideation through product launch for equipment solutions in the food industry. The role requires strong engineering knowledge, proficiency with engineering tools, and an understanding of manufacturing processes. Responsibilities span multiple diverse and concurrent design projects, including both mechanical design lead and supporting roles. The position also mentors and trains other design engineers and contributes to the overall growth of the team. The Design Engineer designs food-industry equipment using hygienic design principles; prepares manufacturing drawings and equipment layouts; conducts engineering analyses and computations, including DFMEA; and builds and tests prototypes. The role also supports modifications to installed customer equipment, maintains machine documentation, collaborates with cross-functional teams, Manufacturing, and vendors, and provides technical guidance for troubleshooting and other internal projects. This is a full-time, exempt position with occasional travel within North America and Germany. The role requires a valid and unrestricted driver's license, a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or TSA-approved alternative for travel, and a valid U.S. passport or the ability to obtain one.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 3 years of relevant Design Engineering experience in the food industry is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in 2D CAD and 3D modeling software; SolidWorks is preferred.
Proficiency in manufacturing drawing detailing, including application of GD&T.
Excellent knowledge and application of hygienic design requirements.
Strong knowledge of and ability to implement engineering tools and practices, including FEA and DFMEA.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, techniques, and equipment in machining and fabrication.
Competent understanding of controls and electrical and pneumatic design applications in machine design.
Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another TSA-approved form of identification for travel.
Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one.
Ability to travel occasionally within North America and Germany.

Nice To Haves

Design competence in package forming, sealing, cutting, and other packaging subsystems.

Responsibilities

Complete mechanical designs using hygienic design principles for food-industry equipment solutions.
Create clear and accurate manufacturing detail drawings and equipment layouts as necessary.
Conduct engineering analyses, computations, and design evaluations, including DFMEA.
Build and test proof-of-concept prototypes to verify compliance with design requirements.
Design and provide technical support for modification projects to installed customer equipment.
Create, revise, and maintain technical machine documentation.
Communicate and collaborate with Electrical, Fluid, Controls, and Safety teams regarding mechanical design requirements.
Communicate and collaborate with internal Manufacturing and external vendors regarding manufacturing specifications and execution.
Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support for customer equipment and other internal projects.
Mentor and train other design engineers, including reviewing detail drawings as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
