The Design Engineering function supports business needs and continuous improvement efforts through appropriate technical product and engineering fundamentals development in employees and management. This position requires a person with a strong technical engineering background, a continuous improvement mindset, and a high level of organization. The Design Engineer provides a high level of non-supervisory engineering work on broad project assignments through all phases of new unit design, development, manufacture, test, and commissioning. They work with Lead Engineers and Project Managers to understand and prioritize assigned work, and provide technical expertise and some work direction to colleagues. This role involves translating contract design specifications and code requirements into product design, overseeing the preparation of manufacturing drawings, submittals, calculations, analysis, procedures, and test plans. The Design Engineer also provides technical support to end-users during installation and commissioning, assists sales and application engineers, and supports contract manufacturing activities. Participation in or leading development projects for product expansion and improvement, and suggesting/implementing improvements to process documentation and training materials are also key aspects of the role. Performing the duties requires well-developed analytical skills for rotating mechanical equipment design and analysis, applying engineering fundamentals, and utilizing knowledge of design stress calculations, analyses, manufacturing, and design to solve complex problems. Engineers are responsible for authoring, checking, and approving contract documents, and may be asked to lead training for colleagues.
