About The Position

The Design Engineer develops innovative, high quality, and reliable products to satisfy customer needs in motion applications by integrating technical and economic factors, feasibility, time, and cost limitations. This role also involves providing superior technical support and service to current and potential customers, assessing product and service requirements throughout the sales process, including installation recommendations or technical assistance. Collaboration with a cross-functional team (sales, customer service, marketing, engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing) is crucial for communicating product specifications, standard requirements, and design changes to ensure customer requests are met. Other tasks and projects may be assigned by the Electrical Engineering Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum four (4) years demonstrated success in design engineering.
  • Experience in new product development.
  • Experience in establishment of component specification testing.
  • Strong listening, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Exemplary customer service skills and prompt responses to inquiries.
  • Professionalism, time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Advanced mathematical, statistical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks, or similar 3D CAD.
  • Proficiency in a manufacturing ERP system.
  • Ability to work under time and budgetary pressures.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Use of hands and arms to operate equipment and handle product.
  • Specific vision abilities including near vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • A current and valid driver’s license and maintaining insurability for operation of company vehicles.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on technical and business levels.
  • Ability to handle high pressure, high demand situations and projects with financial impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical/electronics engineering experience is preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • ISO or similar Quality system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative, high quality, and reliable products for customer motion application needs.
  • Integrate technical and economic factors, feasibility, time, and cost limitations into product development.
  • Provide technical support and service to customers, assessing product and service requirements.
  • Offer installation recommendations and technical assistance during the sales process.
  • Travel to customer sites, exhibits, tradeshows, and other events nationally and internationally.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, customer service, marketing, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing) to communicate product specifications and design changes.
  • Establish, document, and evaluate finished component processing parameters for new and repeat customer orders.
  • Gather product specifications and research application requirements and material availability with the sales team and customer.
  • Utilize technology software to create new product designs or modify existing ones.
  • Communicate regularly with customers to clarify product specifications, application, and working environment.
  • Assist Customer Service Manager and inside sales staff with estimating and quote preparation.
  • Provide regular updates to the Electrical Engineering Supervisor on project statuses and challenges.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Supply Chain departments in evaluating sub-component supplier quality, cost, production capability, and delivery time.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by evaluating, modifying, and designing processes.
  • Provide technical expertise and instruction with machining and assembly design inquiries.
  • Participate in trade shows, exhibits, and customer visits to promote products and gather market feedback.
  • Schedule all travel arrangements and publish travel schedules.
  • Participate in required or suggested training opportunities.
  • Achieve desired results and contribute to department efficiency and productivity goals.
  • Identify, manage, and complete multiple responsibilities accurately, timely, and within budget.
  • Demonstrate collaborative working relationships, good judgment, reasoning, and professional conduct.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Perform other tasks, projects, and duties as directed by the Electrical Engineering Supervisor.
