About The Position

Responsible for the design of gas transmission facility assets across the PG&E system, which include compressor stations, terminals, storage stations, and metering and regulation stations. Knowledge of 49CFR Part 192 and PG&E Gas Standards and Specifications is critical to success. Ensure that all designs meet applicable codes and gas standards. Develop construction drawings which are approved and issued for construction by the Plant Project Engineer. Proactively communicate with numerous organizations throughout PG&E. Specifically, Transmission System Planning, Project Management, Engineering & Estimating, Gas Distribution Engineering and Planning, M&C, GPOM, and Construction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the appropriate field of engineering from a recognized college or its equivalent in education and experience.
  • Equivalency may include education and design drafting experience totaling six years, or education and experience totaling four years including two years at PG&E as a Design Drafter or Senior Design Drafter.
  • Must have a working knowledge of material and equipment including commonly used national specifications and standards, building, or other appropriate codes and fundamental engineering principles and techniques.
  • Must have a valid Class C California Driver’s License or ability to obtain by first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Autodesk Certified User (ACU)” certificate required or two-year technical degree in Drafting, or equivalent (defined as cost estimating, project management, construction management, field engineering or construction estimating).
  • Must either have the certificate or able to obtain certificate within the first twelve months of employment.
  • Utility industry knowledge
  • Design experience in preparing construction drawings or field engineering experience
  • Experience in AutoCAD or MicroStation, AutoCAD Plant 3D, ProjectWise, Excel, and Word
  • Familiarity with applicable sections of code and regulation, including Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations Part 192

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision and with latitude for independent action or decision, performs responsible engineering work on a professional level in design of engineering jobs, projects, or parts thereof.
  • Prepares design, calculations, drawings, layouts and/or studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, rough diagrams, specifications, and/or instructions requiring knowledge of engineering practices and shop and field procedures.
  • Checks drawing, designs, or other work.
  • As requested by his/her supervisor or assigned Senior Design Engineer, coordinates and directs the work of employees in lower classifications and provides guidance for training, orientation, or familiarization purposes to associates engaged in allied work.
  • Contribute toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability, and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles (PG&E/ESC Union Agreement, 1/1/2004).

Benefits

  • The hourly rate for this position ranges from $46.94 to $78.14.
  • Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate for this position is $44.70, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.
