Reporting to an Engineer-in-Charge, the role supports climate adaptation across New York City’s five boroughs by leading and reviewing designs for area-wide green infrastructure, cloudburst management, and integrated roadway, water, and sewer capital projects. The position combines technical design, field engineering investigations, and consultant oversight to advance sustainable stormwater management from concept through delivery. The Design Engineer performs engineering investigations, hydrologic and hydraulic assessments, feasibility studies, desktop analyses, and field evaluations. The role develops and reviews engineering drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, technical reports, and design documentation. It also oversees consultant contracts and deliverables, conducts interagency design reviews, coordinates with City teams, utilities, and partner agencies, and evaluates innovative materials, sustainable practices, and digital tools. The position is full-time for 35 hours per week and is located at 30-30 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City, NY.
