The Design Engineer III will apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices, independently evaluate and adapt techniques, and may act as a project lead. This role involves designing complete projects, preparing plans and specifications, conducting investigations, analyzing data, assigning tasks to staff, and assisting with proposals. The position requires serving on project teams under the supervision of Project Managers, completing assignments on time and within budget, and interacting with clients and multi-disciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or another Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of Architect-Engineering (AE) industry experience
  • EIT/FE registration in Civil Engineering
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, etc.)
  • Proficient in ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related geospatial software
  • Proficient in PDF software such as Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in new software and technologies
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction

Responsibilities

  • Solve design problems using engineering calculations and following general design standards
  • Prepare complete engineering reports related to civil site improvements, storm drainage, water distribution and transmission systems, pumping systems, pipelines, utilities, streets and roadways, bikeways, sanitary sewer collection systems, and water and wastewater facilities
  • Prepare and/or support reports and technical writing related to engineering projects, scopes of work, proposals, grants and other initiatives
  • Prepare project drawings/designs in AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D to establish horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross sections, and perform earthwork calculations
  • Serve on project teams under the supervision of CWE Project Managers
  • Complete assignments on time and within budget and achieve firm’s quality objectives
  • Interact with public and private clients and stakeholders
  • Interact with multi-discipline and multi-office teams
