Design Engineer, Growth & Marketing

PerplexitySan Francisco, CA
$180,000 - $300,000

About The Position

Perplexity is looking for a Design Engineer to help turn perplexity.com into a growth engine. This role involves collaborating closely with brand designers, PMMs, growth, and content teams to ship product launch pages, campaign landing pages, and the components and tooling that enable these teams to move quickly. It's a hands-on position for someone with strong design sensibilities, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to rapidly transform Figma files, Slack discussions, or rough sketches into polished, production-ready pages. The tech stack includes React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Sanity.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a front-end or design engineer, preferably on a marketing or growth site.
  • A portfolio showcasing previous work on marketing sites and design projects.
  • Strong proficiency in React, CSS, and modern frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of responsive design and design-to-code workflows, including platform capabilities and current trends.
  • Experience maintaining a reusable component library and focusing on design details in code.
  • A strong aesthetic sense, with the ability to discern and implement precise design details.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, noticing and correcting minor issues like misalignments, incorrect easing curves, or typographic widows.
  • Stellar communication skills and a proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, including defending decisions, providing constructive feedback, and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment, continuously learn, and excel in their craft.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience running A/B tests and interpreting experiment results in a growth context.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles, structured data, and localization workflows.
  • Experience with web animations (GSAP, Motion, Web Animations API), 3D libraries, or interactive storytelling.
  • Experience working with a headless CMS (Sanity, Contentful).
  • Experience building internal tools or AI-assisted workflows that improved marketing or design team efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Ship product launch pages and evergreen marketing pages for products like Comet, Computer, Deep Research, Search, and Hub, owning the work from Figma handoff to production.
  • Partner with brand designers to build interactive experiences that enhance site engagement.
  • Maintain and extend the brand design system and component library, ensuring synchronization between Figma and production for guided page creation by brand and creative teams.
  • Collaborate with paid ads and growth teams to conduct A/B tests on landing pages, popups, and upsell modules, analyzing results and iterating.
  • Migrate Framer collections to Sanity, model schemas for non-engineers, and ship new content types such as changelog, customer stories, and academy pages.
  • Design and self-unblock when design resources are limited, transforming rough concepts into shippable products.
  • Improve surrounding tools, including CMS workflows, i18n, SEO, experimentation, and internal marketing self-serve tooling, by identifying and fixing manual processes that slow the team down.
