Design Engineer 1

Wasco Switches & Sensors•Santa Maria, CA

About The Position

The Design Engineer 1 supports the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, applying established engineering principles to defined assignments. The role assists with creating, refining, and validating specifications, concepts, and test methods to support product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance. Work is performed under the guidance of more experienced engineering personnel as the employee develops technical knowledge and professional proficiency. The position contributes to design and development, technical research and analysis, documentation, testing and validation, and hands-on technical support. It works collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and other stakeholders, follows applicable regulatory, quality, safety, document-control, and organizational requirements, and escalates complex or unresolved technical issues to experienced engineering personnel. The role operates in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments. It involves extended periods of sitting, standing, and computer use; frequent walking between work areas and stair climbing; and occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, or working around equipment. It may involve handling items weighing up to 50 pounds, exposure to machinery, noise, electrical systems, chemicals, and temperature variations, and occasional business travel. Required safety procedures and personal protective equipment must be followed. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
