About The Position

The University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine Department of Dermatology in Albuquerque seeks a qualified enthusiastic individual for a full-time academic faculty position as a General Dermatologist with a special interest in complex inpatient/consultative medical dermatology. We serve a large, truly diverse, and medically complex patient population. As the only academic health center/flagship institution for the entire state, we are the consultative resource for Dermatology in New Mexico (population 2.2 million) and also serve the Four Corners region of the Southwest. Our population is uniquely multicultural and multilingual, with 22 American Indian tribes and nations (11-12% census population as of 2021) as well as vibrant Hispanic/Latinx (50%), African American (3%), and Asian American (2%) communities. We are also the only inpatient consult service in the state, therefore we run a very consistently busy inpatient service with resident coverage. We are specifically seeking an individual with expertise and interest in this domain to join our existing highly-qualified faculty, though it is not a mandatory requirement of this position. Due to low numbers of practicing specialists especially in rural areas of NM, our faculty and trainees see the entire spectrum of clinical dermatology, including but not limited to: general and pediatric dermatology, Mohs surgery/cutaneous oncology, dermatopathology, aesthetics, and complex inpatient/medical dermatology. Our main UNM Hospital Dermatology Clinic site offers phototherapy and lasers, and the Department/training program has a strong partnership with the local VA Medical Center and Dermatopathology. At the UNM Department of Dermatology, we pride ourselves in our excellence and commitment to all mission areas, training residents to practice at their highest level and offering robust clinical exposure, high-quality education/professional development, research opportunities and a longstanding dedication to community engagement and diversity/equity/inclusivity and belonging. The ACGME-accredited residency program is currently allotted 3 residents/year, supervised by approximately 10 faculty.

Requirements

Medical Doctor or equivalent
Board-eligible or certified in Dermatology
Eligible for medical licensure in NM
Eligible for State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy certification and federal DEA registration
Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Serve as a General Dermatologist with a special interest in complex inpatient/consultative medical dermatology.
Provide consultative resource for Dermatology in New Mexico and the Four Corners region.
Manage a busy inpatient service with resident coverage.
See the entire spectrum of clinical dermatology, including general and pediatric dermatology, Mohs surgery/cutaneous oncology, dermatopathology, aesthetics, and complex inpatient/medical dermatology.
Engage in educational innovation initiatives towards improving diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the physician workforce.
Contribute to the ACGME-accredited residency training program.
