About The Position

Mi Familia Vota (MFV) and Mi Familia en Accion (MFA) are prominent national civic engagement organizations dedicated to empowering and promoting civic participation within the Latino community. These organizations develop, coordinate, and implement sophisticated non-partisan field programs and strategies, including citizenship promotion and assistance, voter registration and voter education, and mobilization. MFV and MFA work to unite the Latino community and its allies to advocate for social and economic justice through increased civic participation. They engage with Latino communities year-round on six key issues: immigration, voting rights, the environment, workers’ rights, education, and healthcare. Mi Familia Vota is a 501(c)(4) organization, and Mi Familia en Accion is a 501(c)(3) organization. Mi Familia Vota builds Latino political power by uniting Latino, immigrant, and allied communities to promote social and economic justice through citizenship workshops, voter registration drives, and voter participation initiatives. MFV operates in eight strategic states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Nevada, Texas, Washington, D.C., and North Carolina. Established in 2008, Mi Familia Vota is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Mi Familia Vota (MFV) seeks a Deputy State Director to manage the state of California. The CA Deputy State Director will be a strong strategist who supports and coordinates the work of their staff to execute campaigns building power with Latino communities in their designated regions. We are looking for someone with strong experience in field operations & campaigns. This leader should have management skills and be an experienced data-driven campaigner focused on building power within the Latinx communities. The Deputy Director will collaborate heavily with their supervisor to ensure that their state is effectively managed and executing all programmatic goals. This position reports to the National Director of Campaigns and Programs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in a program development, management, and fundraising role and/or experience in candidate or issue-based campaigns, with an understanding of direct voter contact programs.
  • Understanding of the US political and demographic landscape and desire to engage the Latinx electorate.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Voter Activation Network (VAN), EveryAction, and voter mobilization tools.
  • Experience conveying the purpose and value of strong program management practices to a wide range of audiences and properly training a team to learn new systems and processes.
  • Effective communicator, detail-oriented, flexible, and responsive to shifting demands, multiple projects, and deadlines.

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Attract & Retain a High-Performing Team: Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and supporting high-quality staff in collaboration with the national departments, Help ensure staff receive the training and tools needed to succeed in their roles, Contribute to a healthy and inclusive staff culture aligned with MFV’s values, Elevate HR concerns and collaborate with the HR Department to ensure resolution in line with legal and organizational guidance
  • Strategic Planning & Program Execution: Co-create state-level vision and strategy to ensure the state increases the political power of the Latinx community in collaboration with the National Campaigns and Programs Department, Oversee implementation of programs at the state level to include program assessment, integration, and evaluation, Support field program success - ensuring the team has the appropriate tools, processes, and best practices to succeed
  • Fiduciary Responsibility: Collaborate with the State Director or National team accordingly to manage the annual budgeting process, Write grant proposals and execute strategic funder meetings, Support national and state fundraising efforts by developing compelling narratives to share the powerful work of the organization, Align programmatic activity and deliverables with state finances and forecasts
  • External Leadership: Represent Mi Familia Vota with all internal staff and external stakeholders, Develop strategic relationships with key community members, as well as support developing relationships with funding partners, Position the organization strategically - coordinating programmatic tables and the media to highlight the work and impact that MFV is having
  • Data & Innovation: Coordinate with Supervisor and Data and Innovation Department to guide strategy, solve problems, and evaluate success, Ensure data management protocols accurately and completely capture data from digital organizing, voter registration, and voter contact (GOTV) efforts that happen in-person and online, Ensure that state data is valid and reliable, Foster innovation by encouraging new ideas, promoting collaboration, and a willingness to take calculated risks for improvement, Follow all data and innovation dept policies and processes, and provide feedback to improve them
  • Communications: Create clear Calls to Action for programs and campaigns to promote on all digital platforms, Align with the Communications team on digital and marketing strategy goals for programs and grant fulfillment, Execute media appearances - leading the narrative of the organization and our mission, Follow organizational branding and communications guidelines and processes
