About The Position

The Deputy Sheriff - Patrol position involves full-time employment with a starting hourly rate of $23.52. This role requires the performance of various duties related to law enforcement and public safety within an assigned area of the County. The position demands adherence to state and county laws, investigation of crimes, and community interaction. Additional duties specific to Road Patrol are also included.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Police Academy training.
  • One (1) year previous experience and/or training involving basic law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Valid P.O.S.T. certification.
  • Certifications in Intoxilyzer 5000, Radar Operations, and Standardized Field Sobriety.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols an assigned area of the County.
  • Answers complaints and requests for assistance.
  • Investigates crimes and disturbances.
  • Interviews witnesses and questions suspects.
  • Collects, photographs, secures, and labels evidence.
  • Makes arrests and testifies in court.
  • Enforces motor vehicle and criminal codes, and all laws and ordinances.
  • Serves various types of civil and criminal papers.
  • Cooperates with law enforcement personnel or other governmental agencies.
  • Transports prisoners, mental patients, and intoxicated persons.
  • Provides protective escort and maintains order at public gatherings.
  • Directs traffic and escorts funeral processions.
  • Prepares and completes various forms, reports, and correspondence.
  • Maintains logs and reports of gas mileage, vehicle maintenance, and shift activities.
  • Receives and files reports of crimes.
  • Operates a computer for data entry, retrieval, review, and modification.
  • Communicates with supervisors, employees, other departments, and the public.
  • Maintains, cleans, and stocks law enforcement vehicles.
  • Administers first aid and CPR when needed.
  • Educates the community on crime prevention and interacts with the community.
  • Assists in community evacuations and advises referral assistance.
  • Assists jailers in processing offenders.
  • Conducts vehicle and trailer inspections.
  • Investigates accidents and criminal activity (Road Patrol specific).
  • Processes arrested persons, fingerprints and searches arrestees, and searches vehicles (Road Patrol specific).
  • Searches for wanted or missing persons (Road Patrol specific).
  • Makes field notes and takes reports of missing juveniles and adults (Road Patrol specific).
  • Assists disabled motorists, removes inoperable cars and debris from roadways, removes livestock from roadway, and investigates suspicious vehicles (Road Patrol specific).
  • Assists fire and rescue (Road Patrol specific).
  • Manages intoxicated persons, juveniles, and crime scenes (Road Patrol specific).
  • Mediates domestic violence calls (Road Patrol specific).
  • Performs license and seatbelt checkpoints and checks defective equipment on vehicles (Road Patrol specific).
  • Arrests DUI drivers and prepares/maintains monthly reports for DUI Grant (Road Patrol specific).
  • Participates in statewide and national seatbelt activities and multi-jurisdictional checkpoints (Road Patrol specific).
  • Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
